During his junior year of high school, Sestero began modeling, working in Milan and Paris for designers such as Giorgio Armani and Gianfranco Ferré. He returned to the United States to focus on acting, enrolling in the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. He landed his first role at age 18, on the CBS hit show Nash Bridges (1996). This followed with a role in the Golden Globe nominated film, Patch Adams (1998) starring fellow San Francisco native, Robin Williams.
